The Big Lunch 2016

What is The Big Lunch?
It is an idea from the Eden Project. It's aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of communities. In 2015, 7.29 million people took to their streets, gardens and community spaces for the seventh annual Big Lunch. This year's Big Lunch takes place today, Sunday 12th June.

Our local town Big Lunch is a giant street party that takes over the whole of the town centre.
This year to commemorate the Queen's 90th birthday there was a crown parade and a giant crown conga which was amazing! There were 5 separate arenas scattered around the town centre with live performances from local dance and martial arts groups including Ellie's cheerleading squad (who headed the crown conga too!) to singers and musical bands.
There were loads of stalls and workshops lining the streets ranging from charities, to handmade goodies to food outlets to local church groups. Even a life size Lightning McQueen from Disney Cars made an appearance along with lots of other characters and streets performers. The atmosphere was fantastic despite the terrible rainy weather'

Here are just a few pictures I took whilst I was there....

This is Ellie's cheerleading squad performing, they did great even though it was raining heavily throughout bless them!

  2. What a great idea - I love where I live as I have my best friend next door and other friends on the other side. We have BBQs together in the Summer along with other neighbours and it really makes a diference to how I feel about where I live so I love things like this x
