I love reading but I have to be in the right frame of mind, I have to be in the 'zone' and be on my own with no disruptions which is why I tend to not read as much as I'd like to and only do it in the bath as this is pretty much the only place I get 5 minutes to myself!!
I love an easy read mostly, nothing too heavy. I have read most of Sophie Kinsella's and Cecelia Ahern's books, I like them types of books you know lighthearted and leave you feeling happy and chilled after reading them. I also like autobiographies, I think this is because I'm quite a nosey person I think everyone likes to know how others live (whether they choose to admit it or not!) especially 'celebrities'!
As a child my all time favourite book was The Jolly Postman!! I Love it and still have it and read it to the kids though they don't see what all the fuss is about unfortunately!
My hubby doesn't read at all, he may read the cattle brochure to see which cows are for sale at the next cattle market and the newspaper every now and then but that's about it!!
Ellie loves reading. She has to read quite a lot, part of her English lessons are tests about books she has read and she has to answer questions on a certain amount of books each month. This is a great idea as it means the book has to be read properly rather than just skimmed through. She has read most of Michael Morpurgo's books and is currently reading the Twilight Saga series.
Keira enjoys reading and is like me, she goes through phases of reading lots then not so much. Obviously she reads her school chapter books but would choose to do something else given a choice. She likes the Dirty Bertie collection and is also into David Walliams books.
Riley can't read himself yet (he's 5 and has a developmental delay) but will tell his own story from pictures using his imagination! Wow that boy has a wild imagination I can tell you!!
I have just ordered some Avengers Stage 1 reading books from Amazon to try and get him more interested! Riley's favourite story's that he loves to be read to him before bed is 'Mr Big' by Ed Vere and 'Aliens love Underpants' by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort.
I read with Lexie and so do the girls but she loves singing so I have been known to sing a story to her before! I can't even sing but she loves me singing which is why I started Musical Mini's with her. We have quite a few of the books from the Usborne 'that's not my...' collection, which we have collected over the years which all of the children have enjoyed reading. I've done a post of my tips for reading with baby if you want a read.
I really enjoy reading with the kids, its great 1 to 1 bonding time which is quite hard to get much of when there are 4 children. What are your favourite books from your childhood and that you like to read now? I'm always on the lookout for recommendations
